About Us

Our Story - The Aguaviva Project

The Aguaviva Project grew from a simple shared feeling: the ocean has given us so much, and it’s our turn to care for it.

Many of us have spent our lives close to the water. For people in Puerto Rico, the coast is more than a landscape: it’s home, memory, and identity. Over time, we all began noticing the same things: beaches changing, plastic becoming part of the shoreline, and marine life facing pressures it shouldn’t have to face.

What started with a few people picking up debris and learning together slowly grew into a community. Friends invited friends. Visitors joined locals. Families, students, and neighbors began showing up with the same intention: to make a positive impact on our coasts.

From these shared efforts, The Aguaviva Project took shape.
It isn’t about one person, it’s about all of us.

Our team brings together a wide range of experience: tourism professionals, educators, individuals in public service roles, medical and health students, operations and service industry workers,, local business owners, and a practicing lawyer.

This blend of backgrounds gives our community a strong foundation in organization, safety, communication, and problem-solving. Each person contributes unique skills that help us carry out meaningful and well-coordinated conservation work across Puerto Rico’s coastlines.

Our focus is simple: protect, educate, restore, and inspire.
We clean beaches, create educational experiences, support community involvement, and remind ourselves that change happens when many hands come together.

The heart of this project is collaboration and the belief that even small actions can ripple outward.

We are a growing community connected by the sea—and committed to protecting it for those who will come after us.

When we protect our coasts, we protect our future.

Our Mission

To protect and restore Puerto Rico’s coastal ecosystems through education, conservation, and creative collaboration.

Our Vision

A future where communities and the ocean thrive together. Connected, resilient, and inspired to protect life below and above the surface.

The Jellyfish Symbolism

The jellyfish represents our spirit. A creature that's delicate yet powerful, graceful yet resilient. Its movements remind us to trust the current, to adapt, and to protect with empathy.

Each tentacle symbolizes the people, partners, and volunteers who help us make waves of change.
